This Tuesday, November 8th, is Election Day. For most of us, it can’t come soon enough. For so many (including myself) this election’s presidential campaigns have been exhausting and discouraging, breeding anger, frustration, confusion and even despondency.
But this Tuesday, we get to decide the outcome of these elections. This Tuesday, I urge you to vote and to vote your Christian convictions. Let your vote be an expression of the priorities and values that reflect the ethics and morality of Scripture and our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
I admit, especially in this year’s elections, voting your Christian convictions is challenging given the deficiencies of candidates (personally or in terms of policies) and the complexity of the political problems our modern world presents. That’s why, even as I urge you to go the polls, I urge you to go to your knees and pray.
Pray before your vote. Pray for wisdom and discernment as you vote. Pray, that no matter what the outcome of all the elections, God’s will would be done and God’s kingdom would come.
And join me in Edgebrook Covenant’s Election Day Prayer Vigil. I urge all of us to set aside a half hour this Tuesday, November 8th, Election Day, and pray. Pray for the outcome of the elections. Pray for our nation. Pray that, no matter who is elected, God’s will would be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
This Tuesday, pray in your private place. Find a quiet place at your work and pray during your lunch time. Or come to our church building. Both our sanctuary and our prayer space on the stage of the chapel will be open for your prayer from 7a to 7p on Election Day, November 8th. The same time the polls are open across our country.
This Tuesday, there are two great services we can give our country. One is to vote in our nation’s elections. The other is to pray for our nation’s leaders, its people and its well-being. Let’s do both this Tuesday.
