The fall season marks a return to familiar routines for many of us.  Here at Edgebrook Covenant, the fall signals the renewal of many of our fundamental Christian Formation and Discipleship ministries:  Kingdom’s Kids, Sunday School for all ages and small group ministries.

This autumn also offers the unique opportunity to join together in reading and reflecting on God’s Story contained in the New Testament.  This year we have been reading together as a church community the story of God’s revelation of grace and love revealed in the Bible.  Our common text has been “The Story”, an edited version of the Scriptures that uses the portions of the text of Today’s New International Version arranged chronologically.  Because the purpose of this edition of the Bible is to focus on the overarching story of God’s grace, the texts selected are almost exclusively narrative ones.  This exercise of reading the Bible in this way has enabled us to get the “big picture” of who God is and what His purpose is for the world.

I invite you to join in this journey of reading thru the New Testament in this unique way this fall.  Each Sunday thru November 20th, I will be preaching on the previous week’s reading with an eye to helping cement the truth of that part of God’s Story more firmly in our hearts and minds.  Additionally, you can join me and others for our Story Bible Study Group that meets each Tuesday from 7:15 to 8:30pm at the parsonage (6379 North Nokomis Avenue in Chicago).

Here’s the schedule for the preaching from “The Story” Bible.  And by the way, if you don’t have a copy of “The Story” Bible, please contact me.  I have a complimentary copy of this book for you in either adult, youth or children’s versions.
